Winter Solstice in Rockville, Maryland was at 4:47 pm on December 21. We northern hemispherians are tilted away from the sun. The sun, it is said, stands paused on the horizon this time of year.
The next day, it rained all day. The day after that, the temperature plummeted to 7 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, three days later, it is colder (wind chills below zero), and the light of day is at its closest to the blink of an eye.
Yet today, the sun is out, the Menorah candles burn brighter and the Christmas spirit shines. It’s solstice season, and as we pause during these days of the standing sun, we can scan our horizons to make sure there is light for everyone.
May our horizons be beautiful and all goodness tilt in our direction. Share the light wisely, generously, and with kindness.
